Lately, I’ve been thinking about how thankful I am to have lost such an enormous amount of weight. Without the help of my family, friends, and those that made fun of me, I would not have been able to persevere. Losing weight was probably the best life decision I have ever made. I have so much more energy than I used to have and I actually have a higher self esteem.
Before, when I weighed 237 pounds, I was still young (about twenty-two) and was eating extremely unhealthy and not really caring about my wellbeing, I mean, it was college so who really takes care of themselves with all of the alcohol and food consumption that takes place during those four years of your life? Well, in 2008 (my Junior year/third year) I decided that it was time to make a change. I made slow changes to my diet and my lifestyle and four years later I had lost a total of 80 pounds, weighing in at 157 pounds.
Currently, I am 150 pounds and still feel great! I work out 3-5 times a week, am currently a vegetarian (and have been for almost a full year), and I definitely don’t eat as many sweets as I used to. It just goes to show anyone that progress can sometimes be slow but if you keep pushing and keep persevering you will achieve your goals. I cannot say that I was never discouraged during those four years of weight loss, of course I was. There were times when I fell off of the wagon and ate extremely unhealthy for a day. The next day, I collected myself and got back on track with my diet. Sometimes, we need to break down and back up a tid bit before we can push forward again.
To all of those trying to lose weight, I salute you! GO FOR THE GOLD GUYS!
